The town is located between the two different faces of the Langhe. To the south is the Alta Langa, with its woods and hazel groves; to the north, on the other hand, are the famous vineyards of the Langhe, home of the “King” and “prince” of wines, Barolo and Barbaresco.

To reach the Sentiero del Lupo you can park your car in Piazza Castello on the top of the village, where the Trattoria in Piazza is located. From the square you can admire the Langhe landscape, the Barbaresco hills to the north and the territories of Asti and Moscato to the east. So, before continuing on your adventure on the hills, take a walk to discover the 28 murals painted on the houses of the village. Each of them represents local stories or folk tales featuring the wolf. Local artists started painting them in 2011 and then thought of creating new ones every year. The choice of the subject was not accidental: the name “Montelupo” or mount of the wolf is due to the frequent presence of the species Canis lupus italicus on the territory

The Sentiero del Lupo also follows this theme, with metal plates that reproduce its shape to mark the path between vineyards and woods. The path can be lengthened or shortened according to your resistance as hikers thanks to the aforementioned signs which are very easy to follow.

You can start as you like from one of the two ends of the path choosing whether to take the right or the left once you have reached the main road at the foot of the square. We advise you to continue along Via Ballerina south, immediately to your left and take the route clockwise: it will be the best choice for wine lovers who can visit the cellars at the end of the trip. Those who take the opposite direction will find an easier path, going down the side of the hill.
